MONTHLY ACTING CLASS FAQ:

My private regular classes are by invitation only, which requires going to one workshop first.  ** There is a waiting list to join.

Question: How many classes do you have?

Answer:  I have a private adult acting class for actors over 18 years old, and a private kids class for minors between 7 and 17 years old.  Both are every Saturday.

Question: How long have you been teaching your regular acting class?

Answer: I started teaching in January, 2010, after watching so many actors during my casting sessions make the same mistakes and felt there was a need to correct them, outside an audition.  Since then I have been doing it off an on, with my current class resumed in August of 2023.

Question: How much is your monthly class?

Answer: $300

Question: How many times do you meet per month and what time?

Answer: We meet every Saturday of the month from 2pm-5pm.  Most times that is 4 times per month, but sometimes that is 5 times per month, depending on the month.

Question:  What is the difference between your acting workshop and your monthly class?

Answer:  The difference between the one-day workshop and the monthly class is the workshop is one day for 3 hours and you get a short 30-60 second clip, compared to the regular class where the scenes are sometimes more extensive and shot on location, in addition to the weekly class where you learn to improve your acting skills and get a ton of inside information.

Question:  What style do you teach?

Answer:  I teach a no-nonsense style that gets to the point quickly without a bunch of useless gimmicks and actually makes a difference and you can start seeing improvements immediately.   However, each actor is different so it will depend on your habits, the time you spend practicing, how quickly you will get better.

Question:  Is your class different from other classes?

Answer:  Absolutely!  Why?  Because I don't just teach you to become better.  I teach you to be different, to stand-out, to improve your auditions, to think differently; all in effort to imrpove your odds of making it.

Question: Do I have to fill out any forms?

Answer:  Yes, you have to fill out an actor release form for you to use any footage and a class structure agreement.

Question: How do you determine who to invite to your private regular class?

Answer: First, you have to been to a workshop first, and then if and when we have space before you can join.  For example, if you come to a workshop in the beginning of September, the soonest you can join, if invited, would be October if there is space available. We also look for actors that are serious, and are able to take directions well who are not too green and will fit in with the existing vibe and energy of the class.

Question:  I see you use some actors from your class in your movies; do you only pick actors from your class to be in your movies?

Answer:  No, not necessarily, but it helps being in my class for many reasons.  I get to know you, you get to know me; I see your limits and your potential as I get it know you, and that makes it easier for me to write a part for you.  Plus there is nothing better for a director than to work with actors they know well; it simply makes the shooting experience so much better, otherwise, I would have to start from scratch, which I do obviously sometimes, with an actor getting to know my style and me learning their comfort level and limits.

Question: When do I get my reel scene clip from the regular acting class?

Answer:  Within 2 weeks, but a lot of times within a week.

Question: What format is the video I get?

Answer:  All videos I do are widescreen, i.e. horizontal (traditional movie format), meaning they are best suited for YouTube, FaceBook, Acting Casting sites, and Instagram posts/Reels, but will look narrow on Instagram Stories.  If you hold your phone horizontally it will fill up the whole screen, but if you hold it vertically it will look smaller and much narrower.

Question: Do you allow minors (anyone under 18 years old) in your regular class?

Answer:  Yes, minors from 7 years old to 17 years old are welcome provided a parent or guardian is present during my private kids class.

Question:  Where can I see some examples of what you shoot?

Answer:  See above reel clip from the regular monthly class.

Question:  Can I get the raw footage after you film my scene or copies of all the takes that were done?

Answer: Unfortunately, I do not give out any raw footage and each workshop attendee gets one completed edited scene, not multiple versions.

Question:  Can I use my own script for my scene?

Answer: Unfortunately not; prior to arriving at the workshop you are given the options of 5 different scripts to choose from.   As actors you are rarely, if ever, given the option to choose your own script (unless you write and direct your own project), in addition, actors should use the opportunity with any script they are given to make it the best possible performance.

Question:  What if I can make it on the shoot day for your regular class?

Answer: It is your responsibility to set time aside for the day we shoot the monthly reel, which is usually the last Sunday of the month, but can change with notice provided by me, or if an emergency comes up.

Question: How is your demo reel service compared to other services?

Answer: I encourage you to check out other acting demo reel services in Los Angeles to compare price and/or quality.  Here is a list of some of the places offering demo reels, but please note I don't endorse or recommend, nor do I have any affiliation with any of them:

Question: How long have you been teaching your regular acting class?

Answer: I started teaching acting in 2010.  I started my one-day workshops in June of 2023 where I cover basic tips and film a reel clip for each actor.

Question: How much is the one-day workshop?

Answer: $100

Question: When is your one-day workshop?

Answer:  The one-day workshop is held once per month on a Saturday from 11am-2pm depending on the month (see dates.times and availability above).

To book a one-day workshop please contact me on Instagram, click here.

Question:  Can you call me before I pay for the workshop; I have lots of questions?

Question:  Unfortunately, I don't do consultations for my workshops, the price is so low already to take time out to speak to people.  I keep things simple:  Book a workshop, show up, learn what I teach, film your clip and get it afterwards.   I encourage you to read the FAQa and if you have additional questions contact me via email.  If you are looking for consultations for your acting reel, check out some of the local Reel Services below I have linked to.   Just note I don't endorse or approve of any of them, nor am I affiliated with them.  I am just confident that what I provide is more affordable, better quality and valuable; however, everyone is different and requires different needs.

Question: Do I have to fill out any forms?

Answer:  Yes, you have to fill out an actor release form for you to use the footage and/or if you are in the regular class a class structure agreement.

Question: I want to come to a workshop but I don't have the full amount yet, can I pay you a small deposit?

Answer:  Unfortunately not, we need the full amount for the workshop for it to be booked.

Question: What if I can't make the workshop after I paid?

Answer:  There are no refunds for any of the workshops no matter what the reason is. You can reschedule up to 7 days BEFORE the workshop for another date, IF we or you can find a replacement, or* get 40% refund ($40) only up until 7 days before the date of the workshop.

Question: Do we meet to rehearse the scene before the day of the workshop?

Answer:  No, you receive the scene options when you book the workshop, and you must practice the scenes on your own or with someone you know and make sure you know the lines for your scene when you show up on the day of the workshop, as we don't take after take until you get it right.   Most times you can nail your scene within 1-2 takes if you have practiced.

Question: When do I get my reel scene clip from the workshop?

Answer:  Within a week, but a lot of times within 1-3 days.

Question: Do you allow minors (anyone under 18 years old) in your workshop?

Answer:  Minors from 7 years old to 17 years old are welcome provided a parent or guardian is present when I have an all-kids workshop.

Question:  Can I bring some of my friends to watch?

Answer:  Unfortunately, no, the space is limited to people that have paid and are attending the workshop.  The exception is for any minor that requires a parent and/or legal guardian to be there.

Question:  Where can I see some examples of what you shoot?

Answer:  See above video from the one-day workshop.

Question:  Can I get the raw footage after you film my scene or copies of all the takes that were done?

Answer: Unfortunately, I do not give out any raw footage and each workshop attendee gets one completed edited scene, not multiple versions.

Question:  Can I use my own script for your workshop?

Answer: Unfortunately not; prior to arriving at the workshop you are given the options of 5 different scripts to choose from.   As actors you are rarely, if ever, given the option to choose your own script (unless you write and direct your own project), in addition, actors should use the opportunity with any script they are given to make it the best possible performance.

Question: But if I use the same script as someone else wouldn't casting directors care?

Answer:  Casting directors care about seeing you being good, not that you used the same script as others, in fact, if you use the same script as someone else, it is a chance for you to do something different and stand out.    However, if you are looking for something specific written for you, you can check out the other reel services below.  Original scripts are only given to actors that are part of my regular class.  It just isn't feasible to write new individual scripts for each actor joining a one-day workshop when the price is only $100.

Question:  Can I bring a friend to the workshop to do my scene without having them pay?

Answer: Unfortunately, everyone coming to the workshop has to pay the fee, except a parent bringing their minor.  You will be paired up with one of the other actors to read the 1-3 short lines the other actor will have.  The scenes focus 90% on you so it doesn't matter who is reading with you.

Question:  What if I can't make it on the shoot day for your workshop?

Answer: It is your responsibility to set time aside for the day we shoot, so set aside time for it.
